MUSEUM ART WORKSHOPS

Timken Museum Art Class

The experience of art viewing and art making come together in these art workshops offered by the Timken Museum of Art in partnership with the Losina Art Center (LAC). All workshops take place at or surrounding the Timken Museum of Art in Balboa Park and are taught by artist Olya Losina, MFA. Geared to all levels of artistic experience, from the absolute beginner to the seasoned artist, each workshop will take place from 10:00 a.m. to too p.m. on the second Wednesday of every month. SHARPEN YOUR DRAWING SKILLS WITH THE MASTERS

February 8, Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Be inspired by the Timken's world-class collection of Dutch and Flemish paintings and see how artists use shape, line, and space. The class will include a brief tour of the museum's Dutch and Flemish Gallery as a prelude to the drawing session.

DRAWING FROM SCULPTURE

March 14, Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Study and draw the Timken's replica of Giambologna's sculpture Flying Mercury and develop skills to render a three-dimensional object on a flat piece of paper. In the beginning of this workshop, you will be able to enjoy a short docent talk on the famous artist and his iconic sculpture.

THE BEAUTY OF BALBOA PARK

April 11, Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

In this outdoor drawing class, you will strengthen your observational skills by sketching the architecture and gardens adjacent to the Timken. The workshop will start in the museum where a docent will introduce us to some striking landscape paintings on view in the French Gallery.

LEARN HOW TO SEE LIKE AN ARTIST

May 9, Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Did you know that an artist has to learn how to see before he learns how to paint? This class will teach you how to see like an artist. Participants will sketch in the galleries and then move outdoors to work in pencils and watercolors.

FLOWER CLOSE-UPS

June 13, Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Be inspired by the Timken's Magnolia Blossom by American artist Martin Johnson Heade and learn how to compose close-ups of flowers and plants. After a brief docent talk, participants will work outdoors using pencils and watercolors.
